World Superbike prepares for Sepang stop

This is the first visit ever for the Malaysian Circuit Representatives to a World Superbike event, and the entire weekend spent at the Dutch Round was considered a great opportunity for them and Dorna WSBK to fine tune their ideas and project implementation.

“Following the strong partnership between Sepang International Circuit and Dorna, it was a natural step to also plan a Superbike event at this legendary track,” said Daniel Carrera, WSBK Championship Director. “Malaysia it is a key territory for manufacturers and sponsors involved in the championship, so we are confident that with the cooperation from all the parties, we can have a very positive result already in this first year event.”

Added Dato’ Razlan Razali, Sepang International Circuit CEO, “It is very exciting for Sepang to witness the SBK race in Assen as this is also our first time experiencing the race before it arrives in Malaysia this coming June 6-8. We have held WSBK before in 1991 but not at the circuit, and as the race grew to be as big as it is today, we can't wait to have the race at our circuit.

“Malaysia is an interesting place to visit, being the Visit Malaysia Year 2014, we have lots of interesting activities and event happening throughout the year and there are of plenty of packages affordable for all to visit Malaysia."

Representing the World Superbike riders, and having visited Malaysia last winter, reigning World Champion Tom Sykes (Kawasaki Racing Team) said, “I’m really excited to be racing in Malaysia; the circuit is fun to ride and for sure another race outside of Europe is great. I would urge all the European SBK fans to come to Malaysia, it’s cheap, hot and most importantly, the people are really friendly, so you’ll have a good time. I don’t like to do things by halves, so if I win race 1, I will be fighting harder to get the double.”
