Young aims to make a splash at Mid-Ohio

THORNBURY, Ont. – Canadian AMA Pro GoPro Daytona Sportbike racer Ben Young will be looking to ‘Make a Splash’ at this weekend's Buckeye SuperBike Weekend presented by Dunlop Tire at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course as he will be supporting a Southwestern Ontario based non-profit organization looking to build a free-to-use special needs accessible Splash Pad in their community.

Although Young‘s last two races at Barber Motorsports Park were just shy of the top 10 he had his sights on, he maintained his ninth place overall in the championship point standings. Young is fully recovered from a hairline fracture in his left foot that he experienced earlier in the season and is ready to make some waves once again.

This weekend the charming Canadian with the Scottish brogue will be lending his support to a non-profit organization called “Bring A Splash Pad to Wilmot.” Wilmot is a finalist in the Kraft Celebration Tour, which pairs communities across Canada in head-to-head match-ups. The community with the most votes will receive a $25,000 Community Award, a celebratory BBQ hosted by Kraft and an exciting on-site broadcast from Canadian sports channel TSN.

Young supported this project last month by donating a signed pair of racing boots for its Silent Auction that was held during the recent New Hamburg Full Throttle Motorcycle Charity ride in support of the Splash Pad initiative.

Young will be sporting decals on the sides of his Yamaha R6’s Canadian-made DUA Motorsports bodywork encouraging his fans across Canada, the US and the UK to VOTE for Wilmot Splash Pad on July 18 at www.kraftcelebrationtour.ca. Unlimited voting starts at noon (EST) and runs through to July 19 at noon (EST).

“I’m happy to support projects like Bring A Splash Pad to Wilmot, especially when it’s for kids. With obesity rates on the rise across America and Canada a free-to-use special needs accessible facility like this can encourage physical activity early in their life,” said Young.

The 2013 GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing season continues this weekend at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio. Tickets start at $60. General parking is free and children 12 and under are also admitted free. Visit midohio.com anytime or call 800-MID-OHIO (643-6446) Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. – 5 p.m. to order tickets or for more information.

This season's GEICO Motorcycle AMA Pro Road Racing action is being broadcast on CBS Sports Network across the U.S. and Canada as part of the CBS Sports Spectacular.

Young and the BYR team would like to thank Tim Hortons – Sudbury, Scotbuild Developments, Fogi Racing Development, Arai Helmets, AXO, GP Tech LLC, Hindle Exhaust Systems, DUA Motorsports Bodywork, KICK Energy Drink, K&N Filters, Performance Cycleworx , Thornbury Home Hardware, BCL Motorsports Pit Kit, Vortex Racing, Motul Oils, Bickle Racing Tire Warmers, GB Racing and The North American International Motorcycle SUPERSHOW, Jerry Daggett, the fans and family.
